Tire Balance Service
The Importance of Tire Balancing and Maintenance
Tire balancing is a routine part of vehicle maintenance. Tire balancing consists of either moving weight around on the edge of the wheel's rim or properly adding weights inside the wheel. This adjustment makes up for differences in weight around various areas of the wheel and tire, so it can spin freely and use the leverage of centrifugal force to aid in continuous motion. Although there are ways for an independent mechanic to adjust tire balance, such procedures don't work as a long term solution. A trained technician with specialty computerized equipment needs to put the wheel in a machine that spins it and measures the forces being exerted before giving a readout about where to place the weight and how much weight to add for optimal performance.

Why Tire Balancing Is Important
Tire balancing is important for several distinct reasons. The first is because it provides comfort for the driver and passengers. If the wheels are out of balance, it makes the ride feel jumpy rather than smooth, as the wheels produce different forces in random directions rather than spinning freely as they were designed to do. The second is that fuel economy will suffer. Along with fuel economy, the transfer of engine power through the wheels to the road will be sporadic, causing the vehicle to neither perform nor handle well. A final consideration is the tires will wear out long before their expected lifetime due to the exaggerated pressure and strain placed on them.
Signs of Tires Being Out of Balance
The most common symptom of tires being out of balance is strange vibrations in the passenger cabin. Sometimes the symptoms can be sporadic, but in general terms, if a rear tire is out of balance, the vibrations will be felt in either the driver's or front passenger's seat, in line with which wheel is out. If a front tire is unbalanced, the vibrations will be felt in the steering wheel. The problem here is, such symptoms assume only one tire is out of balance. Usually, multiple tires will be out of balance, causing multiple symptoms that might be harder to track down.
